The way for a better climate
From carbon footprint to carbon offsetting: our Squacquerone is carbon neutral.
We can say that Squacquerone di Romagna PDO is good for the whole planet. We have neutralised 1,388,305 kg of carbon dioxide, generated in 2024 by the entire life cycle of the cheese, thanks to two certified wind energy projects.
Let’s take a step back
What does “CO₂ offsetting” mean?
From industry to agriculture all the way to handicrafts: all human activities generate CO₂, a major greenhouse gas responsible for climate change.
Offsetting these emissions means balancing the CO₂ produced by funding projects that reduce or absorb an equivalent amount of greenhouse gases. This is a key step to turn things around and to protect our Planet's climate.
Our steps forward
1. The Carbon Footprint certification.
We have calculated the emissions generated by our Squacquerone di Romagna PDO along the whole life cycle of the product. We started from the field, where the fodder needed to feed the cows is grown, the entire production process, all the way to the disposal of the primary packaging and its transportation.
In other words, we have analyzed its total carbon footprint, in compliance with ISO 14067, through the Life Cycle Assessment approach, the core of the Environmental product declaration. Download certificate.
These are all the elements considered in our Life Cycle Assessment:
2. CO₂ compensation projects.
CO₂ neutralisation took place through the purchase of carbon credits for two clean energy production projects using wind power.
